Samsung ML-1640/ML-2240 Toner Chip Installation Guide

This technical support guide explains how to check your Samsung ML-1640 or ML-2240 printer before installing a replacement toner chip.

The procedure requires you to print the printer status page and check the OS version to determine whether the toner chip is compatible or whether a firmware upgrade may be required.

Before You Begin

Check the printer OS version before installing the replacement toner chip. Compatibility depends on the OS version shown on the printer status page.

Toner Chip Compatibility Check

Step 1: Print the Printer Status Page

1. Press and hold the printer button for approximately 5 seconds until the status page is printed.

Step 2: Check the OS Version

2. Locate the OS version on the printed status page and check the version number.

OS Version 83/84

If “83/84” appears in the OS version, the toner chip is compatible and you may proceed with installation.

OS Version 93

If “93” appears in the OS version, the toner chip described in this technical guide is not compatible with the printer. According to the original guide, printers with this OS version are likely from a newer production batch using a different chip version.

Other OS Versions

If another OS version appears, refer to the appropriate firmware information before installing the toner chip.

Important Notice

The original technical guide specifically advises that Samsung ML-1640 or ML-2240 printers manufactured between May 2009 and November 2009 require the applicable firmware upgrade before installation of the toner chip.
